4 interior design details bringing me joy right now
After sharing quite a few tips in my past articles, I wanted to write something more personal and share with you a few recent interior items that caught my eye or just brought me joy.
#1 The unexpected pop of red
You might know this interior trick, but in short: when you have a relatively simple colour scheme in a room, adding one pop of bright red can make the whole space suddenly extremely interesting. The fact that it’s on its own makes it really pop!
I was working on a beautiful new-build project and was excited to bring in more character and charm by adding wallpaper, patterns, and vintage pieces. To balance this and keep the strong "modern" feel my clients loved, I got them the Bold chair from Moustache and... magic! This one red sculptural piece sorted it out in a flash. The contrast with the vintage pieces, the vibrant red, the shape, and the fabric just brought that one kick of modern, while keeping the rest charming and grounded. I recommended they only keep that one piece in red so it’s the eyecatcher in this green and pink Swedish farmhouse vibe of a kitchen. If you want to see more about this project, it’s here!
#2 Turned wood
I am obsessed with turned wood at the moment. I don’t know if it’s the curves that get me, but I feel like turned wood brings that little extra twist (see what I did there!) to a space, that softness, and that craftsmanship.
I sourced a milking stool for clients on Etsy. It came from France, where a lovely couple goes from brocante to brocante to find treasures. It’s small, but it’s perfect to warm up a sterile bathroom. You can use it under a plant or just to hold your loo rolls, and it makes a big difference. It’s also the kind of object you will remember. That special, small milking stool. Zara Home does one too!
#3 Crochet curtains
I have something sentimental about crochet. My grandmother was incredible at crocheting (I mention it in my bio) and used to make giant crochet bed throws that I now cherish more than anything.
Recently, when I had coffee at this cool new place in Berlin called Onette, I just had a massive crush on their curtains because they brought all those memories back. The texture, the delicate transparency, the patterns... they look incredibly chic to me. I can’t wait to put some in one of my next projects. Crochet fans, give me a sign!
#4 Ceramic handles
I love handles. Especially solid brass handles and wooden ones, but then I stumbled upon these ones from Sogo Ceramics. I don’t know, I can’t describe the feeling. It’s the wavy shape, the glazing, the colour. Everything.
Handles are underestimated; they can literally transform your cabinet. You can take a rather simple storage unit and give it a whole new personality just by changing the hardware. I personally also love the ones from Plum Living and Matilda Goad.
