About me
I’m Marina Ramain, a French interior designer based in Berlin. 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇬🇧
My mother still tells the story: four years old, in a clothing shop, already picking my own outfits and mixing patterns the vendors had never thought to put together. They were surprised. I wasn't.
I grew up in France surrounded by handmade things. My grandmother crocheted enormous bedspreads, not decorative objects, just bed covers, but somehow they looked like art. My father still works with wood and weaves baskets from willow. I didn't realise until much later how much that shaped the way I see materials: not as backdrops, but as the point.
Before launching Atelier Ramain, my interior design studio in Berlin, I spent over ten years in international marketing with companies from Germany, the US, India and Norway. Of everything I worked on, the projects I kept finding my way back to were the visual ones: exhibition stands, brand identities, TV set designs, visual campaigns. That instinct for what works aesthetically had always been there. It just took me ten years to make it the whole job.
I also travelled constantly, and learned something from all those hotel rooms and temporary apartments: there is nothing like coming back to a place that is actually yours.
Interiors were my passion all along. I spent weekends hunting for vintage pieces at flea markets, mixing them with natural textures and timeless materials. I was never after the perfect apartment. I wanted the one with a bit of history: objects that feel worn in the right way, things that are a little quirky, a space that tells you someone actually lived there. When I renovated my own Altbau apartment in Berlin, I finally admitted what was already obvious to everyone around me.
I trained in interior design and launched Atelier Ramain in early 2025.
Working as an interior designer in Berlin means navigating a city with a very specific architecture, rhythm and culture. I do it in French, English and German, which matters more than you would think when you are an expat trying to explain what you want your home to feel like.
I start by understanding who you actually are, not who you think a designer wants you to be. Then I clear the noise and bring in what is right: for you, for the apartment, for your lifestyle.
